We guide UAE applicants through the appointment process and the options worth checking. Earlier slots depend on official availability, and no agent can guarantee a date or a visa approval.

Is an expedited interview an option?

An expedited request is separate from finding an earlier regular slot. The State Department gives urgent, unforeseen circumstances as examples that may support one: a medical emergency, a funeral, or a school start date.

Generally you complete the DS-160, pay the fee and book the first available interview before you submit the request. You will need evidence, such as a doctor's letter, funeral details with proof of your relationship, or an official letter from the school.

A holiday or a wish to travel sooner should not be assumed to qualify. Approval is not automatic.

What about the paid expedited appointment pilot?

Do not assume it covers the UAE. The State Department's pilot list, last updated 18 August 2026, named selected posts in Canada, Colombia, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras and Mexico. Dubai and Abu Dhabi were not on it. Check the official announcement for later changes before relying on this option.

Should you apply in another country?

Updated State Department guidance dated 15 July 2026 says nonimmigrant visa applicants should generally interview in their country of nationality or residence, subject to exceptions and designated processing arrangements. Applying elsewhere can make it harder to qualify, may mean longer waits, and fees paid are not refundable or transferable. A shorter wait elsewhere is not a safe shortcut.

Warning signs when "slots" are offered for sale

  • Anyone who guarantees an appointment date or visa approval.
  • Requests to pay for a slot before you have completed the official steps.
  • Offers to book under another person's details or a fake residence.
  • Pressure to buy non-refundable flights and hotels before your interview.

An interview date is not a visa. The consular officer decides your case under US law.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my account show no slots when the table shows 11.5 months?

The published figure is an estimate. The slots in your scheduling account reflect what is actually open at that moment, so the two can differ.

Should I book a late appointment I may not want?

Usually yes, if you have completed the preliminary steps. A confirmed booking gives you a place to reschedule from if an earlier date opens.

Can a travel agent guarantee an earlier slot?

No. Appointment availability is controlled by US authorities. A legitimate service can explain the process and the options, not promise an outcome.

How often are wait times updated?

The State Department updates its published estimates monthly. Check the official scheduling system regularly if you want an earlier date.
